The iPads of Bend, Oregon
A little departure from the normal drivel on real estate in Central Oregon, homes for sale in Bend, or the customary raving about how great the powder was yesterday (it was!); this week, we’re going high tech!
While Bend Oregon has been in the news of late (Bend Oregon Price Drop Leads Nation) and is often recognized for its wonderful outdoor lifestyle, no lift lines, great micro brews, world-class fly fishing, and a climate that boasts 300 days of sunshine a year, it’s not often considered a technological hot bed. In fact, until April first, it wasn’t even possible to get an iPhone in town.Therefore it was more than a bit unusual when, according to Net Application‘s early May report, the five U.S. market areas with the largest concentration of iPads — measured by its clients’ browser data — were as follows:
- San Francisco, Calif. (0.25% Internet share)
- Grand Junction, Colo. (0.23%)
- Santa Barbara, Calif. (0.19%)
- Honolulu, Hawaii (0.19%)
- Bend, Ore. (0.19%)
A bit of esoterica . . . and I’m not sure I have any explanation for the results.
Is this one more feather in Bend’s cap? Will our dear city become known as the “iPad Capital of the Northwest?”
I think not.
